This is what good golfers instinctively tend to do when they place their hands correctly on the grip – they hinge the wrists and they waggle the clubhead.
Pick up a club and try this for yourself.
It’s all about preprogramming the hands, wrists and forearms to work correctly through the initial stages of the swing.
With a good grip, you enjoy the “hinge-iness” of a good wrist action, and when this is combined with a good set- up position and body motion, you have the makings of a golf swing.
So work on forming a good grip, and then let your instincts take you to this halfway-back position.
Once you are able to get the club swinging freely up through this key halfway checkpoint (think of it as a sort of extended waggle), all you have to do is focus on completing your upper body turn to arrive at a solid backswing position.
The key is not to overcomplicate the swing: get a good grip, cultivate this fluid wrist action, and then incorporate it all with a good body action.
